I had a watchdog put on the domain name: playneverwinter.com and it has triggered a couple of days ago so this may be old news for you.
The (old) news say that Cryptic Studios maker of City of Heros and Champions Online will be producing a new game called Neverwinter. The release is scheduled for Q4 2011.
"100 years have passed since the Spellplague consumed the world of Faerûn. Neverwinter, a once majestic city of magic and adventure upon the mighty Sea of Swords, is still being rebuilt from near total ruination. Even as new wonders of stone and iron rivaling ancient works are being raised by the hands of man, dwarf and elf, dark powers beyond reckoning vie for control of the land...
This is a world that promises death for the meek, glory for the bold and danger for all. This is the world of Neverwinter."
The key features as far as I see is:
- Multiplayer
- Persistant world
- Some kind of toolset (or level designer tool, codename Forge)
- 4th Edition
- Multi-platform (but not console)
- 3 races (Dwarf, Elf, Human)
- 5 classes (Cleric, Wizard, Figther, Rouge, Ranger)
- Synchronized release with the first of a trilogy of books by R.A.Salvatore(?)
Thanks for reading

There had better be a githyanki and githzerai PC race choice in this game, considering that tieflings were allowed in NWN2 and this will be 4th edition-'verse!!!
On a more serious note, ever since I read about the results of the Spellplague in Neverwinter (and subsequently bawled like a four year old) I have been dying to know if the former inhabitants will ever rebuild it.....praying before my Gygaxian Altar of Doom that this game lives up to it's potential.
Thanks for posting this, mate!
@Anon,
If they are only having 5 classes I doubt they will be including many races beyond the basic generic ones.
The press I saw said "3 (or more) races". So human and elf because there's no way they'll leave those out. And probably dwarf for the third as my guess.
A qualified guess (based on what Jack Emmerd said) for the five classes classes is:
-Cleric
-Wizard
-Fighter
-Rouge
-Ranger
And for the races:
-Elf
-Human
-Dwarf
I don't miss anything there. I love to play the classic way and what's worrying me more is how combat is implemented and the use of skills and how the quests are made.
Interesting ... Although I am not sure if it is something I will invest in. NWN2 covers all my D&D gaming needs as far as I can see. Still, I will wait and see ... ;)
Lance.
